This Landscape: Translating an experience of place

For: Adults & Students (16+) 

Taking inspiration from Cecilia Danell’s exhibition These Magnetic Magnitudes, create a personal, visual response to the river Boyne landscape.

Beginning in Solstice Gallery with a guided walkthrough of her exhibition, Danell will share some of her working methods, and how she translates first-hand experiences of her native landscape in Sweden into large-scale artworks. This is followed by a walk to the nearby Boyne Ramparts, where participants will employ Danell’s methods of looking and noticing our immediate surroundings. Focusing on spatial arrangements and close-up encounters with the landscape, each participant will determine what they feel most drawn to.

Returning to Solstice, we will respond to sensory memories and quick phone snaps using large scale intuitive drawing and painting. Guided by Danell, focus on your personal experience of place rather than minute accuracy. Enjoy fluid movements and a relaxed atmosphere as you translate your experience of our local natural amenity along the Boyne River onto large sheets of paper to take home.

No previous art making experience necessary.
